Nursery Finished - Be Back Soon

Good Morning, I just wanted to share a few more finishing touches to the nursery. I was missing the two biggest items in the room, the crib mobile and rocking chair.  The big reveal can be read here.

I made a mobile for less than $8.00! Just some scrap-booking paper and a craft ring.

Close up of Mobile.

The rocking chair we found at Sears on a clearance sale.

The room is done and just on time. Tomorrow night I will be admitted to the hospital to be induced or for a c-section depending on what position the baby is in. For some odd reason she doesn't like to stay head down. I'm nervous mostly because I have no idea how to mentally prepare. At the same time I'm also excited. So wish us luck.

I image the next few weeks will be crazy and I may not be blogging as much. But keep checking back or follow my blog for new posts. Once life settles down here and resembles normal again, I will be excited to start tackling some projects around the house. We are settled in the house, but I want to make it feel like a home for the three of us.

Thanks for reading my blog and I will be back soon.

Relaxing and Some More Relaxing

I have had a busy and somewhat stressful week. Most of the stress is caused by me just over thinking, but needless to say I need a relaxing day.

My sister-in-law and a few family friends are leaving for Italy tomorrow for a family wedding. Since the husband and I are not attending the wedding, I joined up with the bride and a few friends for a spa day, mani/pedis and lunch. Just what I have need for weeks.

While I have to admit, I'm completely jealous that we will not be attending the Italy wedding, that's ok we will be having our own little adventure in 5 days. My doctor has decided to deliver the baby in 5 days. I will be 37 weeks and my doctor is concerned about preeclampsia.  The baby is very healthy and the doctor has no concerns about delivering her a few weeks early. So this weekend I plan to get my house cleaned up for visitors and cook a few meals I can freeze and make a trip or two for ice cream!

Enjoy your weekend.

Nursery Source List

Thanks for the feed back on our daughter's nursery. As promised here is the a list of where each item came from.

  • Shelves - a DYI project by my husband, supplies from Stanford Home Center
  • Toys/Books - were gifts or a few of my toys from my childhood
  • Curtains -  Ikea

  • Lamp - Target
  • Storage Cube - Target  (not pictured)
  • Book Shelve - was a yard sale find, but originally from  Ikea (not pictured)
  • Paint Color - sorry we did not repaint the room, it was painted by original home owners so I don't have a color to share.

I still have a few changes and items that the nursery needs. Last week we were told by our doctor that the baby would be delivered at 37 weeks (which is next week...yikes) due to some complications. So the husband and I have been busy getting the finishing touches. More posts to come.

    Nursery Reveal

The nursery is so close to being done. Really the only item left is the rocking chair, that will hopefully be purchased this weekend.

So I thought I would go ahead and share the room with you. Here the room before.

And here is the room now.

I will be back next week to share the sources. Have a great weekend.

    Laundry and Organizing

Yesterday I wash all the babies clothes with a non-scented laundry detergent. Then after washing and folding them all I organized them by size and put away. Just one of the necessary steps to getting the nursery completed.

While you were out enjoying the sunshine this prego lady was washing lots of clothes and waddling up and down the stairs.

I even put the diapers and wipes in the top draw for easy access for the changing pad on top of the dresser.

The tiny diapers make me smile!

Hope you are enjoying your day.

    Removing Wall Decals

We were very fortunate with our new house, the baby's room didn't need a lot of prep work. The walls are painted a light lavender and there was dragon fly decals on walls.  My husband and I both really loved the wall color and decided not to change it. But I did not love the dragon fly decals. The decals were nice, but just not the look I was going for.

I'm not even sure if the dragon flies are wall decals or actual wall paper.

    Close up of the decals.

I believe there was 20 decals. At first I was afraid of removing them, fear of ripping off the paint. But to my surprise they actually came off very easily. To remove, I simply took an old wash cloth and dipped it in warm/almost hot water. I then wrung out the wash cloth and held the wash cloth over the decal for a 30 seconds and started to peel. If any of the decals were stubborn I simply just applied the wash cloth again and until the decal came off. The whole project probably took about 40 mins. My husband and friend helped me since standing for long periods of at a time was an issue in my second trimester.

Has anyone ever struggled with removing wall decals, borders or wall paper? Share your tips with us.

    Baby's Room Ideas

Since announcing my pregnancy, one of the biggest questions I have been asked is how I plan to decorate the baby's room. I have thought long and hard about what I want the room to look like. I really want a place our little girl will love to play in. I wanted pop's of color but yet a smoothing tone to the room.

Here is a mood board I put together with a few of the key items. Forgive me this is not the best board I ever created, I'm using my husband's mac while my PC is on loan to a friend. I'm not as familiar with a mac and had to use Google Doc to create this board.

These items are the main items we planed to use in the room.

    1.  Bedding is from Carousel Bedding - I was able to find a great bargin on the bedding.

    2.  Curtains are from Ikea. I search high and low for polka-dot curtains at a reasonable price and was jumping up and down when I found them at item for $14.99 a pair.

    3.  The dresser is also from Ikea. I wanted a durable stylish dresser that didn't break the bank.

    4. The lamp is from Target. The color matched the bedding and curtains perfectly.

    5. The Flower Wall Decals are from WallArtDesigns (Etsy). I asked the artist to create butterflies for me instead of owls.

The room is coming together nicely. All these items are blending well. Besides the items above I have been working on a few DIY projects like the crib mobile. Wish me luck, I only have 5 more weeks to complete all projects.

    Baby Products

Yesterday in the mail I received Baby Formula samples from Similac.

I was excited to receive these samples even though our plan is to breast feed. Since I'm not sure yet if I will be able to breast feed or if the baby will want breast feed, the samples will come in handy. It's  a nice feeling to have a back-up plan.

These samples made me start to think more about all the baby products on the market. How does one know what is right for you and your baby? I think trying out samples is a great way to test different products that are best for you and baby. Or asking advice from other mom's.

What products did you love or hate for your baby? What are must haves? A first time mom looking for some advice!

    Baby Room Ideas

Originally I wanted the babies room to be a room she could grow with. I was looking for a sophisticated feel. I found this room from Pottery Barn Kids.

I love the stencil wall and how the white crib and accessories bring a sense of calm to the room. But as usual I changed my mind. I really wanted a room our daughter could play in. I want a fun space that she loves to play in.

When I came across this bedding from Carousel Designs, I was inspired to blend these two images to make the fun and peaceful room for our baby girl.

After LOTS of searching for items and great bragins, I was able to put together my vision. Stay tune for the room board.

    Enjoy your day!

    New House - Outside tour

Before I dive into the baby's room. I have wanted to share a few picture of the house.

    ba

    Back Yard, side of house

Back Yard. The land beyond the fence is a preserved green space.

So far we are loving the space. I'm hoping next summer (post-pregnancy) to plant some more plants.

    Welcome Back

Please forgive me for being a neglectful blogger. When I started the blog I never realized the time and dedication that you need to devote to having a successful blog. Thus far I would not call my blog successful. I have had a few days of heavy traffic that made me giddy! Yes I said giddy it was like winning the lottery when I seen the traffic numbers increasing thru out the day. But sadly the past few months have been so busy I have neglected my blog. The reason is , we recently moved into our new house!  I promise a house tour soon.

I’m hoping to focus more time and energy on the blog real soon. On July 1st, I will be leaving my full-time job. I have been with my current employer for 7 years. I’m ready for a change and want to be a stay at home mom for a while (I have 6 more weeks before she is here). I was planning on staying at work until our daughter is born in August but the my employer had other plans for me. So on July 2nd I will be unemployed and a stay –at-home-wife-and-mom. I’m excited for this change in my life. A little nervous but really excited.

I’m proud to say I have a wonder husband who is not only supportive but believes he me and wants me to focus on issues that are important to me. Taking care of our daughter while she is young is top priority of mine. Also working on my blog and crafting/home improvement have been a passion of mine. Finding the time has always been an issue. But on July 2nd I will no longer have any excuses. So thank you honey, for believing in me.

First projects will be the baby’s room. At first I thought I want a elegant room that she could grow with. Then as usual I changed my mind. I want her to have a fun playful room that she will love hanging out in. Here is a sneak peak of item for the room to give you an idea on the direction of the room.
Stop back daily to see the results.

P.S. Sorry for the blurry pictures, a new camera is coming soon.
